Intermezzo: On motivation

Of course it gets hard sometimes. And of course there are going to be obstacles along the way.

Written by Rok P.
I cannot count the times someone asked me how do I stay motivated. Not just in business but life in general. Why don't I ever quit when I decide to do something?

You see dear friends, motivation is not as black and white as the day is bright and the night is dark. What motivates me is not watching a 5 minute motivational video on Youtube or stumbling upon an inspirational quote. It might help, sure; it might give you that little extra push you need but external factors will never be sufficient to keep you going when doing so might seem completely unreasonable.

You need to find something you enjoy doing. It's been repeated over and over but there really is no way around it. This is the only way for you to stay motivated because if you think about it you never need motivation to do something you love. Whether it’s going for a drive in your new sports car or cooking a fancy meal. Have you noticed that when you do something you love, you don't even think about it as work? You just do it and enjoy the process.

Of course it gets hard sometimes (the picture some successful people paint is that of constant happiness). And of course there are going to be obstacles along the way. But that's life, and sometimes you just have to push through. It’s like going to the gym. You don’t always jump out of the bed to go lift some weights, but you still go and do it, and nothing, I mean nothing can replace the feeling of getting over the obstacle in a spectacular way.

To sum up; everyone can stay excited for a month or two, some can stay excited for a year, but my dear friend, a very small group of people can stay excited until they finish what they started. You need to stay excited.

Until next time, RP.
